New employment opportunities for Renfrewshire’s young people
Renfrewshire Council is supporting the delivery of the Young Person’s Guarantee with a range of opportunities to support local young people into employment, training, or education.
The Scottish Government launched the Young Person’s Guarantee in November 2020 to support young people to recover from the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Guarantee aims to give all young people in Scotland, ages 16-24, the chance to succeed through the opportunity of a job, apprenticeship, education, training or volunteering within two years.
In Renfrewshire, the Guarantee will be delivered through the council’s employability service, Invest in Renfrewshire, with support from local partners, including West College Scotland, Skills Development Scotland, Engage Renfrewshire, Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce, DYW West, DWP and Renfrewshire Health and Social Care Partnership.
As part of the Guarantee, Renfrewshire Council is aiming to create an additional 700 jobs over the next year through the UK Government’s Kickstart scheme, with over 300 of these already confirmed.
These placements are paid six-month long job placements for 16-24 year olds who are currently on Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment.
