Our programme Make It Your Own (MIYO) is a creative tenancy sustainment project for Care Experienced young people aged between 16-26. Care experience can be care at home, foster, residential, young people in temp/homeless accommodation or kinship care. Participants can also be attending College ,University and in employment.
It teaches practical creative skills to those moving into new tenancies or those who have just moved into new tenancies.
Our fully qualified tutors teach essential skills such as sewing, decorating, basic DIY and interior design. This enables young people to transform their house into a home, and helps them develop a sense of ownership and pride which can help reduce tenancy breakdown.
Alongside a host of technical skills, participants also learn transferable skills which enable them to progress in other areas of their lives.
The young person decides what they would like to make, buy or upcycle during their 12 workshop sessions, while they manage their materials budget of £150. Materials, equipment and travel expenses are provided for the participant.
Participants can either join a local workshop where they work one-to-one with our tutors and gain a support network of peers or our Mike It Your Own tutors can deliver sessions off-site to a minimum of 4 participants and a maximum of 10. For off-site group sessions, we would start by delivering a taster session to gain interest, and take it from there.
This is a rolling project, referrals can be made at any time, to make a referral please contact angela.wilson@impactarts.co.uk or hello@impactarts.co.uk.
